Calculators
Every tool below follows the same contract: the formula is printed on the page, the data source and the pricing data's as-of date are disclosed, and the output is a low/typical/high planning range — never a single fake-precise number.

Working the other direction
The tools above turn a house into a price band. The roofing quote check runs the same math backwards: paste the line items from a bid you already have, and each one is converted to a rate per square and placed above, inside, or below the band we publish for that work — with the question to ask the contractor about it. Lines we publish no band for are named and left alone rather than guessed at. Like every tool here it runs entirely in your browser; the quote is never uploaded.
How these tools stay current
A calculator only ships after its data pull is documented on the methodology page and its math has passing regression tests. Every tool displays the as-of date of its pricing data, and when a table is re-pulled the date stamp on the page moves with it. Tools whose data we can't defend don't get published.
